State Library

I had a good look at the State Library Info-area in which the work will be displayed. At the moment there are two projectors but I spoke to Kath Kurzwell and she said they may change this and have a single, larger projection instead. I spoke to her about some of the changes we discussed (e.g. strange/surreal animated backgrounds)and she seems genuinly excited about the project. She is also quite keen for us to think about making use of the entire space, so we have the option of displaying banners etc.
I also took some photos of the space and will send them with the POB images.

State Library Space

I am going in tommorrow to have another look at the State Library Space and see how we can set it all up. I quite like the idea we had about having the two projections creating a panorama type situation...
I will see if I can take some photos and will post them online. I will also send you both a CD with the images I took at POB. They are much too large to post on the server.

ABSTRACT OVERCODING MACHINES DESIGN #1

I know it is a bit pink but we can change the colours...

I quite like the idea of having them limp strangely through the landscape like 'creepy' dark creatures maybe with some 'bloodsmoke'...We can have a sighn that displays some text and maybe something swinging from part of the structure.

I quite like that they have a resemblance to housing structures as well...What do you guys think - particularly about working with this type of aesthetic? I quite like combining the original idea with the colours used in Jean-Pierre Jeunet movies. I think it may need to be grungier... Still early days....

Port of Brisbane

I went to the Port of Brisbane on Wednesday and took some photographs. It is not the most picturesque place and quite diffiicult to actually get to the port area. I managed to take a few nice shots though. One of the ideas as I mentioned would be to create surreal machine structures marching through the landscape and perhaps altering the surrounding envioronment. Sarah mentioned Deleuze and Guatarri's 'Abstract Overcoding Machines' - I think that is a great start. I will see how I go actually making them... and will post some experiments online for your input...
I spoke to a woman at the Visitor's Centre and she mentioned we could contact the Port of Brisbane PR and Archive officer to see if we could get access to some of the commercial/archival images of the Port. The woman she suggested to contact is Dianne Miers - dianne.miers (at) portbris.com.au. The Library should also have archival images of the Port as part of their collection.

The starting point...

Well...the blog is now up and running and linked up to the gmail account. This can be the repository for all our thoughts/research. I am planning to go to the Port of Brisbane next Wednesday to take some photos and get a feel for the site.

Also note that I have been playing around with the style we discussed in our last meeting for the blog, but this can be changed to something more suitable when we have started working on some of our images for the actual installation.
